This video is still so relevant (would love an update though!). The perception of viability in melee and how hard it is to make certain characters "work" is much too skewed, especially for new players coming from outside the community. There are a few characters down in the lower tiers that are borderline unplayable (bowser) sure. Some other low tiers can be fun to mess around with but can't really win much vs top tiers either. Once you get to mid tier though, most of the cast really doesn't feel that bad even against top tiers if you just put the practice in. (Coming from a doc main who does pretty well online with very minimal practice now).

I kinda wish I was born 10 years earlier, honestly. I’m 20 now. The 2020s so far aren’t proving themselves a very good time to finish growing up. A madman who can’t really be stopped without ending the world is invading a smaller, more democratic nation, and we’re running low on those. The world just got out of a super bad pandemic that may well have softened us up enough for a theoretical Spanish Flu like outbreak again. Korean reunification appears to be off the table at least until Kim Jong-Un dies and is succeeded by someone else. And the unsustainable two state solution in Israel/Palestine is showing its weaknesses in how Palestinians are treated by Israelis (similar to the Canadian Indian Act, honestly.). These Palestinians, in turn, rebel against what they perceive as mistreatment. Maybe it’s time to partition the landmass and create two completely independent states like Korea. Or, I know, actually grant them and voting rights.

Tier Lists are the most heavily debated things amongst Smash Bros gamers. I've always had the same perspective as aMSa: ANY character can win a major tournament, regardless of tier placement. There are others like aMSa who are proof that this is true. You can say this character is more viable than that one all day, it all depends on the player behind the controller and their experience and strategy. People forget it's a fighting game. Go watch George Foreman vs Muhammad Ali and tell me it's not the same damn thing.
